As listeners of my show know my own website has been in development for sometime. Unfortunately, the web developer left the job incomplete and did not provide me with passwords and the information to launch the site. It was supposed to be a multifaceted, multifunctional site and I was really looking forward to it taking the place of the site I have had since 2009. That is not to be.
So I have launched this Blog. In these pages I will provide you with my upcoming guest information so you can listen to the excellent discussions we have always had on my show. Professional filmmakers sharing their expertise, their know how, tips, advice and secrets to help filmmakers everywhere advance their career and get their projects made.
As many of you know I act and produce and direct. So my guests are friends and colleagues in the film business. Actors, writers, directors, producers, editors, cinematographers, VFX supervisors, script supervisors, musicians. composers. casting directors, agents, managers, publicists, wardrobers, locations managers everyone behind the scenes, on camera and in the side lines are the people we will talk to.
My mission is to bring you people who work everyday in the film business. I want you to hear from those who are busy raising money, producing film, TV, web series, music videos, acting in features and series, finishing the project, selling, marketing publicizing, distributing and getting the product to market. I want you to hear from the best and in depth discussions, the nuts and bolts.
So far there is over 400 hours of programming archived and available for you to listen to 24/7. Go to the archives and listen, learn and enjoy. My listeners are everyone from A list industry professional to emerging filmmakers and fans world wide. Though my program is educational in nature there is something for everyone and our discussions are lively and entertaining.
I will post upcoming guests on this blog page. From time to time I may comment or post filmmaking news or tips too. I am going to link up my other site here so you have access to that as well.
I am not an expert blogger and truly not a computer guy. I wish I had multiple pages here as I did on my other site and as would be on the new one under construction.
I’ll share a little history with you. In 2006 I wanted to launch my site so I could benefit filmmakers by connecting them up with industry pros. I began asking friends if they would be on my show. My web developer ultimately delayed me until 2009 because frankly I didn’t have the time or the knowledge to run and maintain a website. With the advent of iweb he deemed it reasonable to launch the site there. I immediately told him that was not what I wanted and it would not grow with me as I would like it to.
By early February 2010 I had convinced him to move it from iweb and create another platform. Only a week later, sadly and tragically he was killed. I lost a friend and a very smart, savvy web developer and technician. That was more than enough of a loss.
In addition though I lost the new site that had not yet been developed and launched. It took me months but eventually I found someone who said they wanted to do it, they wanted to help me launch the new site. While we discussed everything it took another year for this person to begin.
I stopped contributing written content to my site, the numerous blog pages I had, because it was all to be moved over to a new platform and if I kept posting the process would be unending. So I ceased posting blogs. What was supposed to take a couple months dragged on into years.
Then the web developer disappeared went dark. After many months he emerged and promised me that would never ever happen again. He showed me an incomplete site that was positioned to launch and and we went over details again for how I wanted things categorized and how I want the audio to play from the site. THEN he went dark again. It has been a year and he has not emerged. I have called the hosting companies and though because I paid through him I am unable to access anything.
So with no more than that brief description of events though a number of years we are here today. I am not certain what to do or how. I could attempt to load all the archived shows and pages but then it would be a long while until it was ready. I suppose I could still do that on a mirror site behind the scenes.
For now i think it is just more practical to launch this blog, include up coming guests starting this week and link to the old site so you can peruse the archives in your leisure. I really hope you do the wealth of knowledge you will gain by listening to my guests and I discuss our believed movie business will astound you.
So that is it for now. I am so happy to have you join me here and on all my other pages. The official Rex Sikes’ Movie Beat site is at http://www.rexsikes.com and all my discussions with filmmakers is at the INTERVIEWS blog. You can follow on twitter to @RexSikesMovieBT.
